"CAN CHILDREN’S READING DAYS"
ARE STARTING IN SOUTHEAST ANATOLIA

Can Publishing Company, authors and drama artists are going to support and contribute to the "Project of Reading Merriment in the Southeast Anatolia", which has been conducted by GAP Regional Development Administration (GAP RDA) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Erdal Öz (Can Publications), Samiye Öz (Can Children Publications), the representatives of GAP RDA Gül Gemalmaz and Aygül Fazlioglu, the UNDP representative Aydan Aytaç and supporting authors and drama artists participated in the press conference on 27 February 2006, Monday by 11.30 am at the Can Bookstore in Istanbul for the presentation of the Project.

Can Children Publication will take place within and contribute to the "Project for the Rehabilitation of Working Children in Streets" by carrying on its "Reading Days" in the provinces of Gaziantep, Sanliurfa and Batman, where the Project is presently carried out under the "Programme for Strengthening Regional Development and Reducing Socio-Economic Disparities within the Region - Phase II", a joint initiative of GAP RDA and UNDP.

Within the context of the Project, in those three provinces of Southeast Anatolia, Batman, Gaziantep and Sanliurfa, libraries are being established at the centres for working children in the streets. These libraries will host the events of "Can Reading Days", which will take place from March to June 2006 with the participation of writers and drama artists.

Guests invited to these "Reading Days" include Erdal Öz, Sevim Ak, Mehmet Ali Alabora, Hadi Çaman, Tilbe Saran, Bilgin Adali, Ceyhun Yilmaz, Nemika Tugcu, Buket Dereoglu, Özgür Özgülgün, Cemil Kavukçu, Çetin Öner, Ceyda Düvenci, Göknil Genç and Halil Ergenç. Through the activities starting on 7 March, the first reading will be done by Erdal Öz and conversation with children will take place.
