OVERALL PURPOSE OF GROUP DIRECTORATE

Performing or commissioning work related to mapping, public works, infrastructure building and construction in the region; developing relations and collaborating with local governments; developing and implementing policies and projects in the field of large scale physical investments, development as well as environmental protection and management; making efforts for the protection of cultural heritage in the region and promoting tourism; and monitoring, evaluating and coordinating sector based investments and activities of government agencies in issues relating to its specific field of expertise.

DUTIES AND AUTHORITY

• Organising local participatory planning meetings in the GAP Region for those settlement units asking for urban development plans through the process of tendering by the Presidency,
• Carrying out/commissioning work related to mapping, public works and infrastructure projects needed by local governments,
• Carrying out reconnaissance work and preparing tender documents relating to infrastructure and construction works,
• Having urban infrastructure surveys and projects (sewage-treatment and solid waste management) developed for settlements in the GAP Region,
• Ensuring coordination within the Administration and with other parties in matters related to urban development and cooperating with other relevant units in this regard,
• Conducting investigations and documentations and ensuring coordination in issues related to excavation, rescue and documentation works for cultural properties which will remain under dam lakes,
• Ensuring coordination among relevant agencies in projects designed to protect and preserve cultural and natural properties, their multi-purpose promotion including for tourism and transfer to coming generations,
• Within the framework of programmes developed by the Administration on province basis, developing programmes for supplying drinking water to settlement units, giving priority to rural settlements without access to safe water and drilling to reach new water sources,
