Project and Fund Development

 

Project development and fund raising activities of the Administration comprise the development of a project portfolio, seeking funds for projects that are already undertaken or newly produced by the Administration and monitoring-evaluation of funds thereby raised. The Administration also evaluates projects proposed by other organizations and is engager in cooperation in project implementation in case these projects are in line with its objectives and strategies.

EXAMPLES FROM THE GAP PROJECT PORTFOLIO

ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS

Let’s Save Rafetus Euphraticus : The project envisages necessary ecosystem restoration in order to save Rafetus Euphraticus, which is a water turtle living in 5 different isolations in Southeastern Anatolia and who is under the threat of extinction.

GAP Training in Environment (Training of Trainers) : The project envisages building environmental awareness and sensitivity among children attending basic education schools in the GAP Region.

SOCIAL PROJECTS

Multi-purpose Community Centers (ÇATOMs) : The idea is to increase the number of community centers established in the GAP Region to strengthen the social status of women and children and to improve development indicators in the fields of education and health. At present there are 28 ÇATOMs in GAP provinces.

Children’s Reading Rooms : The objective is to provide children suitable spaces for studying and getting acquainted with computers and new games in their out-of-school times also with the presence of voluntary trainers. At present there are 6 active children’s reading rooms. Another room in Adiyaman - Gölbasi will be open at November.

Stipends to Female Students : The objective is to provide cash assistance to successful girls at school who could hardly attend their schools for various hardships their families face. At present there are 622 girls benefiting from the stipend scheme administrated by the GAP Regional Directorate. Stipends are:

  • 40,000,000 TL to basic education students,
  • 60,000,000 TL to high school students, and
  • 90,000,000 TL to university students.

 

Children’s Cinema : These cinemas aim at contributing to the multi-faceted development of children through films suitable and educative for children.

Community Based Maternal and Child Health : The objective is to reduce maternal, infant and child mortality rates and to raise standards in reproductive health in selected project areas.

Project for Supporting Early Childhood Development : This project was developed to protect preschool children from risks in streets, impart them skills in creative thinking ahd to help them build self-confidence.

The Southeastern Anatolia Book (GAP Prestige Book) : The book contains information on natural, environmental, historical, cultural and tourism-related characteristics and assets of the GAP Region.

EXAMPLES OF PROJECTS FOR WHICH FUNDS WERE RAISED

Healthy Eyes and Success in Education : Under this project implemented with the McDonald Child Foundation, 18, 617 students in 10 basic education schools in Sanliurfa were screened for eye health.

Under the same project, eyeglasses were provided to 1,126 students, about 1,000 students were given outpatient services with medicine and 9 students underwent surgery in Sanliurfa within the green card scheme. 17 of 18 students not covered by any health insurance scheme, got their operation during summer vacation 2004. Medical devices necessary for screening were procured by the Foundation and then donated to the Harran University.

Children’s Reading Rooms : Two more reading rooms were opened in Batman and Nusaybin under the sponsorship of Fritto Lay, an international firm producing potato chips. Another room in Adiyaman will be open at November. Preparations for reading room in Ömerli is about to be completed.
