International Relations

GAP is an integrated regional development project giving special attention to "human development" and "sustainability". It is one of the most ambitious development projects in the world which has begun to receive considerable interest at international platforms.

Thereof, the international platform displaying neutral attitude towards the GAP Project has begun to display their deep interest and willingness to cooperate in the different aspects of this Project not only in providing technical assistance through the protocols but also financial assistance through grants and loans.

THE USE of FOREIGN RESOURCES in GAP

GAP has an estimated project total cost of $ 32 Billion for public investment, of which $ 13,9 Billion had already been invested. By taking into consideration of its multi-facets in the regional development process, GAP considers all sectors including agriculture, social, industry, transportation, housing, rural and urban infrastructures, health, education, tourism, cultural heritage and the environment.

  • The loans are basically provided from external resources including some European Governments (French, Sweden, U.S.A., Canada etc) and other international agencies such as European Social Development Fund, World Bank etc for the technical completion and the mechanization projects (construction of dams, hydraulic plants, drinking water networks, agricultural research and extension activities) (Table I.)
  • Grants provided from foreign institutions, agencies and donors such as World Bank (WB), World Health Organization (WHO) as well as some development agencies such as Trade Development Agency (TDA), Canadian International Development Agency (IDA), U.S National Institute of Health (NIH), has been particularly used for the project preparation and feasibility studies for the different development projects.
