GAP AGRICULTURAL TRAINING AND EXTENSION PROJECT (GAP-TEYAP)

The aim of the project is to increase the effectiveness of agricultural training and extension services and to improve the capacities of related organizations in the areas which are open and/or will be opened to irrigation in GAP Region

The project area covers some pilot areas which will be selected from 300 000 ha area which was opened to irrigation and from 800 000 ha area which will be opened to irrigation by the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) in 9 provinces of GAP Region.

The target group of the project is 5000 farmers, the primary target group, whom the project will have a direct contact, another 15 000 farmers who are around that primary group will be the second target group, and 60 000 farmers whom the project will catch them through group or mass extension methods will be the third target group. So, totally around 80 000 farmers will be caught by the project.

On the other hand, around 500 technical staff who are working at governmental or/and non-governmental organizations as agricultural extension staff or consultants in the region will be another target group of the project.

The expected results of the project are following:

  • To improve the capacity of the governmental and non-governmental organizations in the subject of agricultural training and extension.
  • To strengthen the capacity of farmers and farmers’ organizations in technical and management ways. 
  • To ensure a better coordination between the organizations related to agricultural training and extension studies.
  • To develop an effective and sustainable extension model in GAP Region.

The GAP-TEYAP Project is managed under the coordination of GAP Administration (GAP RDA) together with The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock (MFAL) and DSI.

The Project Activities:

  • To determine the needs of stakeholder organizations
  • To determine farmers’ needs
  • To increase the capacities of the extension organizations:
  • Trainings-courses for technical staff: in irrigation, extension, management-operation-maintenance (MOM), organic farming, crop growing, farm planning, economic analyzing, and etc. subjects.
  • To prepare training and extension materials: books, booklets, CDs, films, etc.
  • To increase the capacities of farmers-farmers’ organizations
  • Farmers’ trainings and agricultural extension activities: training courses, technical visits, hand books, demostrations, field days and etc.
  • To ensure coordination between all stakeholders: PYK-PUK meetings, workshops, other meetings, and etc.
  • To develop a sustainable extension model. “Pluralist Extension Model Based Farmers’ Organizations”

The objective of the extension model is to ensure the participation of farmers’ organizations into the agricultural extension studies and to develop their agricultural training and extension capacity in GAP Region.
